Its about that time of year again folks, time to break out the GAs and fly some crazy route across the country. For the past couple of years Jim Hiland has thrown together some of the craziest flights across the continent. Seeing as he is a touch busy this year I figured I would try my hand at it.
The wife has given me clearance to spend my birthday weekend in the cockpit. I thought this would be a good time to take my C206 amphib from its base in northern Maine to the summer home in Orlando. A 1400 mile journey built with the sea plane pilot in mind.
The legs are broken down into small enough chunks to give myself and anyone who wants to join me a break here and there, and for folks who cant fly the entire flight the opportunity to jump in for a leg or more. Each leg is anywhere from 1.5 to 3 hours. I will be flying the Carenado U206G Stationair on floats.
Wheels (or rudders) up at 9AM EST. Hope to see you there!!!
The legs are as follows
KFVE (for non sea-planes) or 92B (for seaplanes) - PQI MLT KAUG Distance: 192.6
KAUG CON GDM HFD 42B (has both water and paved runways) Distance: 205.7
42B CMK STW KPHL (has both water and paved runways) Distance: 181.8
KPHL SIE SBY HCM W97 (paved only) Distance: 190.2
W97 CVI ISO KCPC (paved only) Distance: 225
KCPC MKS NBC 2SC4 (for floats) or KHXD (for non floats) Distance: 162.1
2SC4 (or KHXD) SAV JES CRG FL55(for floats) or KSFB (for non floats) Distance: 239.8

Early "Happy Birthday" to you Kyle. I'm sending up a 'six' of something... via USPS. "Heheheheeeeee"... Enjoy the day!
Sorry Mate! I gotta work an assignment on Saturday. But if you wanna make a run - wherever - on Thursday or Friday - get to replying...
ChEeRs,
Keith

I'll try and join in in the Beech 18 Amphib, or maybe a super cub on floats.

Is there open water in Maine at this time of year?
definitely not, that's what is fun about flying in alternate realities. You can make stuff up as you go along, and drink beer while your doing it!

Looks like it is going to be an interesting day tomorrow with all the weather along the route. Wea re going to have to do some dancing or even file IFR for a few legs...we will just have to see. Ive got the fridge stocked with goodies and my comfy pillow for the seat primed and ready! LOL This is gonna be cool!

What an excellent day!! In the beginning I called about 14 hours from start to finish. I departed 92B at 9:03 and landed at FL55 at 11:03. 14 hours to the letter!!
There was lots of intersting weather throughout the flight this evening. Most notably, flying the ILS into KPHL with Dan Cordero, Donno, and Tom Parker. I couldn't even see the runway until I passed through 500 feet. I surprised myself with a personal best..hand flying the ILS flawlessly.
Leaving KPHL was a trip and heading into W97..was unbelievably hard. I was glad to have flown a float plane...cause the water was a lot easier to see than the ground. That followed up by a sweet landing at KCPC with Dan Cordero, and Dave High looking on. And of course the grand finale...landing at FL55 and taxiing on the water way to the dock outside the condo, followed up with Geoff Humphries pulling right alongside.
Altogether, I really enjoyed the day, and couldn't have asked for a better flight with a better group of people to enjoy it with. Thanks to all who shared the journey with me, it was awesome!! Dave High, Donno Cole, Tom Parker, Eric Maresh, Dan Cordero, Kevin Finch, Kyle Vanderark, Marquise Dykes, and Geoff Humphries, you guys rock! Thanks for enjoying the day with me.

I'm sorry I missed it. On the other hand, I can get out of my driveway this morning.

I'm sorry I only got to fly one leg. I was hoping to do a lot more, but this whopper of a storm preempted just about everything else I wanted to do. I had a blast though. Never imagined myself flying an ILS approach, into Philly International, in a float plane, in 1 1/4 SM vis, in heavy snow, in high winds.

The only true failure in life is the failure to try.
